Gazipur, Bangladesh (BBN)- The 14-party grand alliance supported mayoral candidate of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) Advocate Ajmat Ullah Khan on Sunday congratulated newly-elected mayor Professor MA Mannan, saying the polls was held in a fair and free manner.
In a reaction immediately after losing the maiden GCC polls, he said the first election to GCC was held peacefully and smoothly. “This election is held peacefully and free and fair manner under the Awami League government.”
He said none from the government side influenced the election, while Mannan said, “Attempts were made to snatch our victory.”
Mannan won the polls bagging 365,444 votes while Awami League backed candidate Ajmat Ullah Khan bagged 258,867 votes in all 392 polling centres.
The newly-elected mayor has assured the city dwellers of Gazipur of turning Gazipur city into a modern one, Mannan said. He sought all sorts of cooperation from Ajmat Ullah.
